Heavitree
Heavitree is Exeter’s eastern neighbour – the mature suburb that sits between the city centre and the M5. Polsloe Bridge railway halt, the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, the People’s Park paddling pools, the old Heavitree Brewery footprint, and a quiet residential grid that is steadily home to more of the city’s young families.
What to do
- Heavitree People’s Park (Pleasure Ground) – free paddling pools in summer, a bandstand, formal Victorian planting. Worth a Sunday afternoon.
- Whipton – the small high street at the eastern end of the area, with a butcher, bakery and independent cafes.
- Polsloe Bridge – one of Exeter’s small commuter railway halts, on the Avocet Line to Exmouth.
